Dear High Tech High Families,
In a previous email we outlined HTH's plan for implementing distance learning in the event we did not reopen schools on April 7th. San Diego Unified School District released a press release Tuesday, indicating that they will not be returning on April 6th and will be implementing distance learning for all of their schools through the month of April. We have officially decided that we follow suit and will not return for in person instruction on April 7th. When HTH teachers return on April 6th, they will spend that week designing and piloting plans for distance learning. We will be reaching out for your thoughts and feedback as we do this work. We will roll out our approach to distance learning the week of April 13th and you will receive detailed information from your child’s teachers about what to expect going forward. We are asking teachers to plan for their first distance learning module from April 13th - May 8th. Our hope is that by that time, we may be able to return to school, but if that is not the case, we will begin a second module that will run until the end of the year. Leaders and teachers from across High Tech High have been working to design a framework for distance learning at our schools and create the infrastructure necessary to support that plan. We’ll continue to engage in this work over spring break using your input regarding your technology access to help us craft an approach tailored to our community’s needs. If your family currently does not have reliable internet access, please see the options that local internet companies are offering as families try to stay informed. Getting Internet Access: Available Plans https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/hn/availableinternetplans.asp Thank you for your patience and support. From Director Kelly Jacob on 03/05/2020:
"Students are welcome to bring their cell phones to HTMNC, but they must be turned off and put away during class time. We are also asking that students respect this rule while on fieldwork during the school day. Students may check messages and make calls on their phone during breaks and lunch. Please help us limit cell phone distractions by asking your student to follow these rules and only check their phones at these times. If you need to reach your student outside of break and lunch, please call the front desk, 760-759-2753 to speak with Mrs. Pahl. She is happy to get an important message to your student. Students are also welcome to come to the front desk and use the school phone at any time during the day if needed. We appreciate your help." This is a great place to get updates about what is going on at our school. I also recommend downloading the Remind App to get important messages in real time. Here's to a great year!
Dear Kyle/Leader/Schafer students and families.
Hello Kyle/Leader/Schafer students and families,
Hi Leader/Kyle/Schafer Team Students and Parents,
We had an amazing second week working on building classroom norms, starting our first project and taking math (MAP) pre-assessments. I was so happy to get get started with our first project (I am...) related to understanding ourselves via the human body systems. Everyone was off to a great start in terms of completing assignments on time and because of this, the first part of our student created book is already looking wonderful. We will continue to work on amending and adding to classroom norms but they are looking like a great set of principles to work together on. There were so many people stepping up and critiquing others writing and already showed grit in working through difficult items with the MAP math testing. This week we will start the "Modeling" unit of the Connected Math Program. Come in on Monday ready to start with lesson 1.1. If parents or students have questions, there are wonderful resources found on my DP via the Connect Math (CMP) site. All math curriculum can also be found on my calendar and is added daily. We will also be learning more about human body systems through dissections and experiments this week. Towards the end of the week, we will be choosing the body system to focus on in the project . As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much, Matt https://www.remind.com/join/jacolivas
